Our management team handles the day-to-day functions of the Trust, including implementing and overseeing all of its projects. Here is our team:
Benson Leyian
GENERAL MANAGER Leyian joined the institution in 2011 as its first manager. He brings with him an immense wealth of experience from a middle level International Non-governmental Organization (INGO) as well as from Interactions and Solidarity (I&S), where he co-founded and worked as Chief Executive Officer/Managing Trustee for four years. During his tenure at I&S, Leyian was involved in fundraising, financial management, human resource management, and institutional development among others. Leyian also previously worked as the first natural resources manager for Kimana/Tikondo Group Ranch. Leyian holds Bachelor of Science in Leadership and Management, having completed a double Major in Non-profit Organizations Management and Public Administration. He received First Class Honors from Strathmore University. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya. COORDINATOR/ ASSISTANT MANAGER Koikai is the Coordinator/ Assistant Manager in charge of group ranches (ATGRCA) in the Amboseli Ecosystem Trust. He is a Trustee representing the Olgulului Ranch Trust, a family estate and a longstanding Member of the Amboseli Tsavo Group Ranches Conservation Association (ATGRCA). Koikai is a founding member of the ATGRCA. Koikai has wide experience and exposure locally and internationally on matters of the environment and rangelands in relation to wildlife, pastoralism and the people. COORDINATOR, RESOURCE ASSESSORS PROGRAM David has been working in Amboseli as the ACP field officer for more than 35 years. As a member of the local Maasai community in the Amboseli area, David brings a unique perspective to the program. His rich understanding of the interaction of people, livestock, and wildlife, and the challenges facing conservation in human landscapes, enriches his key roles in the design of field experiments and long term data collection and monitoring. Amboseli Ecosytem Trust is a registered charitable Trust incorporated under the provisions of the Trustees (Perpetual Succession Act) chapter 164 of the Laws of Kenya - Reg. No. 156/01/198/MMIX. After developing the general management plan, stakeholders created a Trust that will oversee its implementation. The Trust herein “Amboseli Ecosystem Trust” was established. It is mandated to mobilize resources for the implementation of the 10 years management plan. The supporters and funders of the Trust are key players in the ecosystem.
